That timing decides everything about how the sale works: which license the salon holds, how many treatment zones the drawing shows, which products will carry a Montaji label, and which certificate the lamp itself has to hold. A business-registry scrape published in April 2026 counts 2,864 beauty salons across the Emirates, up 4.98% since 2023, with 85.75% single-owner — Abu Dhabi 856, Dubai 815, Sharjah 519 (Rentech Digital, April 2026). A market-research estimate puts the wider field at 8,000–10,000 beauty salons and nail studios, with Dubai alone above 3,500, and projects 6–8% annual growth through 2035 (IndexBox, 2026).

The gap is definition, not data quality. The registry count covers licensed beauty salons; the larger figure sweeps in nail bars, home-based studios and clinic-adjacent rooms. For equipment planning that matters, because a licensed salon with a fit-out file buys a different lamp from a two-chair studio in a residential tower — and the two are not in the same sales channel.

8,000–10,000

Beauty salons and nail studios in the UAE, Dubai above 3,500 — the addressable base for professional curing equipment (IndexBox, 2026)

55–60%

Share of UAE nail-care value that is salon and professional use, with gel polish the largest sub-segment (IndexBox, 2026)

220–240 V

50 Hz, on BS 1363 type G sockets — a moulded 13 A cord set is the correct default, not an adapter

The license type decides how many lamps you need

Dubai licenses salons through the Department of Economy and Tourism, and the license is issued by activity rather than by brand: women’s salon, men’s salon or barber, unisex salon, and children’s salon. The one that matters commercially is unisex. A unisex license requires separate entrances, separate reception areas and a permanently closed internal door between the male and female sections, and municipality inspectors verify the layout physically before fit-out approval is issued.

That single rule doubles the equipment list. Two zones, two reception points and a sealed door between them mean two benches, two consoles and — in practice — two sets of everything that cannot be walked between rooms mid-service. A supplier quoting “one lamp per technician” against a unisex drawing is quoting half the order. The same logic runs the other way for a children’s salon, where volume is low, sessions are short, and a single compact unit at the second chair is often the whole requirement.

What the fit-out approval actually checks

Dubai Municipality’s fit-out checks are dimensional and material, and they are published in the licensing guidance that business-setup consultancies circulate each year: a minimum ceiling height of 2.3 m, one metre between styling chairs and half a metre between a chair and the wall, a minimum 3 × 4 m footprint for a two-chair salon, a waiting area at least two metres from the work area, a dedicated wash basin for facial treatments, a water heater on the premises, and fireproof materials in the hair-removal areas.

Read that list as an equipment spec. A 24 × 24 × 11.5 cm unit with a rear power inlet fits inside the half-metre wall clearance that a wider bench-top lamp does not. A moulded cord that exits at the back sits against the wall instead of looping across a fire-rated surface. And because the drawing is approved before the bench is bought, the dimensions and the inlet position are the two numbers the fit-out contractor needs from you — early, in writing, before the joinery is ordered.

Rear inlet and USB-C on the same face — the detail that decides whether the unit fits a half-metre wall clearance.

Montaji is the deadline nobody plans for

Two different files sit behind a working nail station, and they belong to different owners. The lamp is electrical equipment and needs conformity assessment. The gel, base coat, sanitizer and even the disinfectants used at the bench are cosmetics or chemical products and must be registered with Dubai Municipality through the Montaji system — unregistered products cannot legally be used in a licensed salon and will fail an inspection if found.

Practically, cosmetics registration through Montaji runs about two to four weeks per SKU and is typically quoted in the range of AED 800–1,500 per SKU. That is a per-formula cost the salon or its distributor carries, and it is the reason a new gel line can hold up an opening by a month while the equipment is already on site. If you are supplying a private-label package, say clearly which half of the file is yours: the lamp’s technical file is ours, the Montaji registration belongs to the brand named on the gel.

ECAS, EQM, and the certificate that clears customs

Electrical and electronic equipment entering the UAE must conform to UAE technical standards through the Emirates Conformity Assessment Scheme (ECAS). ESMA — the authority that created the scheme — now sits under the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, but the certificate is still called ECAS in trade, and it is still what a customs broker asks for.

ECAS is the mandatory one. Testing at a recognised laboratory, technical-file review, certificate issued against the model. Certification bodies quote a validity of one to three years depending on category, so get the term for your specific model in writing rather than assuming.

EQM is voluntary and commercially useful. The Emirates Quality Mark adds factory audit and surveillance, and the large retail groups increasingly prefer it. It is worth having if your customer sells through a hypermarket or a mall operator; it is not a substitute for ECAS.

TDRA only applies to radio. The standard lamp has no wireless function, so there is no type-approval step. Add a wireless charging pad or a Bluetooth feature and that changes — budget for it before the tooling, not after.

What the console has to do in a Dubai salon

The 5.5-inch console carries 29 interface languages, and in this market the useful configuration is Arabic plus English plus one more for the technicians who actually run the bench. Two things to check on a demo unit rather than on a spec sheet: that the right-to-left layout renders correctly in Arabic, and that the language can be locked so a shift change does not leave the next technician hunting through a menu. The same console shows the heat and light-decay warnings, which is the part a chain operations manager will ask about.

Zoned curing, and the question clients now ask

Curing works the way it works in every LED lamp in the category: LED emitters produce a defined band of UVA and the gel photo-initiators respond to it. What is different here is delivery. A 2-megapixel camera with 0.5 TOPS of on-device compute detects the nail position in about 0.2 seconds, and the 136 dual-band LEDs — 365–370 nm and 395–400 nm — are driven in zones, so light goes to the nails and not to the surrounding skin.

That is an exposure-management argument, not a chemistry argument, and in the Gulf it is the one clients raise: uneven tone and darkening across the back of the hand after years of gel. Reducing unnecessary light exposure of the surrounding skin is a real, describable benefit. What we do not claim is a lamp with no UV output at all, or a different curing principle — the principle is shared with the rest of the category, and any supplier telling you otherwise is selling vocabulary.

Private label, and the model number that has to match

White-label units — no logo, no retail packaging — start at three to five units, and a single unit can ship as a paid sample so a salon can run it for a week before committing. Full custom branding, with your logo, color and retail carton, starts at 300–500 units.

Whatever route you take, the model number is the hinge. The ECAS certificate describes a model; the rating plate, the carton and the commercial invoice have to describe the same one. A new logo does not create a new model. A new housing, a different LED count or an added battery pack does — and that is a new certificate, not a sticker. Decide which side of that line your branding sits on before the cartons are printed, because reprinting is cheap next to re-certifying.

The full parameter set is on the AI Smart Nail Lamp product page, and the private-label ladder from sample to own brand is set out under OEM and ODM.

Quick FAQ

      <details class="bt-faq__item">
Do we need ECAS before we can quote a lamp to a Dubai salon?

For import and sale, yes — ECAS is the mandatory conformity route for electrical equipment and it is what a broker will ask for at clearance. For quoting and sampling, no: a sample unit can be evaluated while the certificate is being processed, provided it is declared as a sample. Sequence it so the certificate lands before the first commercial shipment, not after.
</details>
      <details class="bt-faq__item">
Is the lamp itself registered with Dubai Municipality, or is that only for the gel?

The lamp is equipment, not a cosmetic, so it goes through the electrical conformity route. Cosmetics and chemical products used at the bench — gel, base, top coat, sanitizers — are what the Montaji registration covers, per SKU. Two files, two owners: we hold the technical file for the machine, the brand on the gel holds its registration.
</details>
      <details class="bt-faq__item">
How many lamps does a unisex salon actually need?

Count zones, not chairs. A unisex license requires separate entrances, separate reception and a permanently closed internal door, so the two sections cannot share equipment during service. In practice that means one lamp per working station in each section, plus a spare in a salon running four or more stations — a dead lamp in a licensed salon is closed chairs, not a delay.
</details>

Next step

Send us the license type, the station count per zone, the plug type in the building and the date your fit-out drawing goes in, and we will come back with a unit count, a cord-set specification and the technical file your importer needs for ECAS. Sample units ship from three to five pieces, one unit at a time if that is what the decision needs.
