The pot is fine. The thermostat is fine. The problem is a 220 V heating element on a 127 V circuit: the pilot light comes on, the wax softens at the edges, and it never reaches pouring temperature. By the time the salon concludes the equipment is bad, three weeks of appointments have been rescheduled.

The heater range — ten models from a 20 ml graphite warmer to an 800 ml double-pot station, all with chip-based temperature control.

The 127 V arithmetic, before anything else

Mexico runs 127 V at 60 Hz on standard single-phase supply, with type A and B outlets. Heating power scales with the square of the voltage ratio, so a 220 V element fed 127 V delivers roughly a third of its rated wattage. A 100 W pot becomes a 33 W pot. It will eventually melt wax — slowly, unevenly, and never with the recovery time a working column needs between clients.

There is a second half to the arithmetic. For the same wattage, a 127 V appliance draws roughly 1.7 times the current of a 220 V one. That changes the cord gauge, the plug and the load on a shared circuit. In a studio where two pots, a lamp and a hair dryer sit on one branch, that difference is a breaker that trips at 4 p.m. on a Saturday. So the purchase order should state voltage, frequency, element rating and plug type explicitly — not as a destination note, but as a build instruction.

NOM: who actually holds the certificate

Electrical appliances entering Mexico need conformity to the applicable NOM standard before they can be imported, distributed or sold. For this category the safety standard is NOM-003-SCFI-2014, which covers electrical products up to 1,000 V AC and is harmonized with IEC 60335-1 while keeping national differences; the test basis is the ANCE standard series, NMX-J-521/1-ANCE. Labeling and commercial information sit under NOM-024-SCFI-2013 (Spanish instructions, warranty terms, importer details) and NOM-050-SCFI-2004 (general product labeling).

Four points decide whether the first container clears without a rewrite:

The certificate holder must be a Mexican registered entity. A foreign manufacturer does not hold NOM directly. The importer, distributor or local company does, and that relationship should be in writing before production starts.

M1 versus M2. M1 is type testing only, typically valid for one year; M2 adds an ISO 9001 system and a factory audit and can run three years. A trial order usually goes M1; a chain that reorders annually should price M2 across the volume.

Test where it counts. ANCE or NYCE are the recognized certification bodies; testing runs in a Mexican-accredited laboratory. A CB report can reduce the test program but does not replace the certificate.

Series certification saves money. Models that differ only in capacity or color can often be covered as a family, provided the difference does not affect safety. That is an argument for buying a full ladder from one manufacturer rather than three models from three suppliers.

One thing you do not need: IFT. That is the telecom regulator, and these heaters have no radio. A digital controller and an LED display are not radio devices — a supplier who tells you otherwise is padding the quote.

The 450 ml single-knob model — 30–125 °C, one control, no menu to learn. The workhorse of a two-chair room.

Capacity is a scheduling decision

The Mexican wax market is small in absolute terms but structurally interesting: about USD 0.24 billion in 2025, forecast to reach USD 0.37 billion by 2034 at a 4.85% CAGR, with soft wax still the larger segment by value and hard wax the fastest-growing (Deep Market Insights, 2026). Across Latin America the category runs at roughly 7.2% a year to 2034. Hard wax growing faster than strip wax is a pot decision, because film wax lives in a pot and needs a stable, repeatable temperature.

The practical way to size a room is not by liters per day but by concurrent services. One therapist working back-to-back through a film-wax menu needs a pot that recovers temperature in minutes, not one that holds a large volume at a drifting setpoint. Two therapists working in parallel need two pots or a double-pot station, because a single pot creates a queue at the refill, not at the chair.

The ladder we build covers that mapping without asking a buyer to change supplier as they grow:

20 ml graphite warmer (PW6) — a portable unit for brows, lip and touch-ups, and for mobile work where weight matters.

180 ml (PW8) and 250 ml (PW2B) — single-service rooms and small studios, easy to store, quick to heat.

400 ml (PW1B) and 450 ml (W5, W6, BWW5K) — the salon standard. The BWW5K is the entry point: 450 ml, 100 W, a single knob sweeping 30–125 °C, no screen and no touch interface, which is exactly why it survives a room with high staff turnover.

500 ml (W2) with digital display — for a studio that wants a setpoint a new therapist cannot misread.

800 ml (SW1B) and double-pot 400/800 ml (SW6B, SW8B) — high-volume columns and rooms running two wax types at once.

Every model uses chip-based temperature control rather than a bimetallic thermostat. That sounds like a spec-sheet nicety until you cost it: a bimetallic thermostat drifts across a shift, so the therapist compensates by turning the knob up, and the pot runs hotter than the wax wants. Film wax overheated loses elasticity, tears instead of stretching, and the redo costs more than the electricity saved.

The double-pot station — two temperatures, two wax types, one footprint at the back bar.

What the room actually costs you

Mexico’s waxing demand is being pulled by two things at once. The professional channel is formalizing: more dedicated studios, more treatment menus, more regulation of premises. And male grooming is no longer a niche — research cited in 2025 found 70% of Mexican men aged 18–24 say grooming boosts self-esteem, and back and chest work needs a pot that can hold temperature across a longer service.

That combination rewards equipment that behaves like a tool rather than an appliance. Three details to check on a sample before you commit a container:

Recovery time. Melt 300 g, take it to working temperature, then add 100 g of room-temperature wax and time how long it takes to return. A pot that takes twelve minutes cannot run a full column.

Setpoint stability. Hold at 55 °C for an hour with a probe in the wax, not in the air. The gap between the two is where cheap controllers hide.

Pot fit. If your salon buys 450 g or 500 g inner pots, confirm the collar diameter. A pot that does not seat properly is a spatter risk and a burn risk, and it invalidates the aesthetic of a tidy back bar.

What belongs in the purchase order

A clean order for Mexico states: 127 V / 60 Hz, element rating in watts, plug type, Spanish manual and label artwork, the name of the Mexican entity holding the NOM certificate, and the model-family listing if you are buying a ladder. Add spare 127 V heating elements and inner pots to the first shipment — not because the parts fail, but because a replacement shipped from Asia arrives in three weeks while a salon needs it in three days, and that gap is what makes a distributor look unreliable.

Full specifications and capacities are on the wax heaters product page. If you are also weighing how many pots a room needs rather than which pot, the Argentine and Chilean guide walks through the same capacity math for a neighboring market with a very different import file.

Quick FAQ

      <details class="bt-faq__item">
Can we use a 220 V heater in Mexico with a plug adapter?

No. An adapter changes the shape of the connection, not the voltage. A 220 V element on a 127 V supply delivers roughly a third of its rated power, so the pot heats slowly and never reaches a stable working temperature. Order the 127 V / 60 Hz build and confirm the plug type at the same time.
</details>
      <details class="bt-faq__item">
Who holds the NOM certificate — us or the factory?

The certificate holder is a Mexican registered entity: your importer, your distributor or your local company. The manufacturer supports that process with technical files, CB reports and Spanish documentation, but cannot hold NOM directly. M1 covers type testing for about a year; M2 adds ISO 9001 and a factory audit and can run three years, which suits buyers who reorder.
</details>
      <details class="bt-faq__item">
Do the digital models need extra certification?

No. A digital controller and LED display are not radio devices, so IFT does not apply. They fall under the same NOM-003-SCFI-2014 safety route as the analog models. Models that differ only in capacity or color can often be covered under one series certificate, which is one reason to source the whole ladder from a single manufacturer.
</details>

Next step

Tell us how many chairs you are equipping, which wax types you carry and the voltage at each site, and we will propose the ladder with the right element ratings, the Spanish document set and the spare-parts list for the first shipment.
