One product line rarely serves both well without a deliberate split.

Ten models across 20–800 ml. Singapore also lists 574 beauty parlours and 415 hair salons in the same snapshot — a reminder that the waxing client base is spread across categories, not concentrated in dedicated wax bars.

The physical infrastructure is genuinely identical: 230 V at 50 Hz, BS 1363 type G sockets with the 13 A fuse in the plug, the same three-pin moulded cord. A container can leave the factory with one cord set for both countries. That is where the similarity ends. Singapore rents are among the highest in the region and a treatment room is measured in square meters; Malaysia has six times the outlet count, a much wider spread of price points, and a client base that shops hard on price in the Klang Valley and less so in Penang and Johor.

Because the equipment decision follows the cost structure rather than the plug, the same catalog produces two different three-model shortlists. It adds capacity by making each pot work harder and each room turn faster. That changes the specification in three places.

Footprint before volume. A pot that needs its own trolley costs rent. The 180 ml PW8 takes brow, lip and underarm work in a footprint small enough to live on a shelf between treatments, while a 450 ml unit covers legs and back. Two sizes, one shelf, no second cart.

Heat-up time is a revenue number. If the first client is at 10:00 and the technician arrives at 09:40, a pot that needs thirty-five minutes from cold has already lost the slot. Ask for the cold-start time measured with the bowl at working capacity, not with an empty pot — the two figures differ substantially, and only the first one describes a Monday morning.

Two working temperatures mean two pots. A film hard wax running at 55–60 °C and a rosin-free hard wax running at 45–50 °C cannot share one setting. A dual-pot station costs less floor space than two single units side by side, and it removes the “which temperature is this one at” question that produces burns and reworks in a busy room.

The 180 ml size exists for rooms where shelf space, not wax volume, is the binding constraint.

A dual station replaces two single units on the floor and settles the “which pot is at which temperature” question.

Malaysia: the constraint is the price band

With six times the outlet count and a much broader income spread, a Malaysian distributor sells a ladder rather than a hero product. The range covers it: 20 ml for sample and brow work, 180 ml and 250 ml for a single-room studio, 400 ml and 450 ml for the working room, 500 ml with a digital display for a studio that quotes temperature to clients, 800 ml for a high-volume back bar, and dual 400/800 ml for two technicians on two temperatures.

At the entry end sits the BWW5K: 450 ml, 100 W, a single dial from 30 to 125 °C, no display and no touch panel. It is the model that answers a first-time buyer who wants a working pot at the lowest credible price, and it is also the model most often mis-sold: a dial without a display is fine for a technician who has used one for years and a liability for a new hire who has not. Sell it to the first group, sell the digital 500 ml to the second.

The chain segment behaves differently again. A group buying for fifteen outlets wants one model number, one spare-parts list and one service procedure, which usually means standardizing on the 450 ml class and keeping two 180 ml units per flagship for brow work. Standardization is worth more to them than a per-unit saving, and it is the argument that closes a fifteen-outlet order.

Two approval routes, one per country

This is the part that decides the shipment date, and it is not symmetrical. Neither country accepts the other’s paperwork.

Malaysia: Energy Commission approval, with a local holder

Regulated electrical equipment needs a Certificate of Approval (COA) from the Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga) plus the ST-SIRIM label, and the certificate cannot be held by an overseas manufacturer. A Malaysian company — registered with SSM and holding a tax number — must act as the holder, and that holder first needs a Certificate of Registration through the Commission’s online system before a product application can even be filed. Registration is valid for one to five years; the product COA itself runs for one year and must be renewed before expiry.

Two schemes exist and they suit different sellers. Product Certification involves an initial factory audit and annual surveillance, and lets the label be applied at the factory — the right choice for a distributor shipping regularly. Batch Testing skips the audit, tests each consignment and applies the label after arrival, which suits a first trial order but not a repeat program. Testing is against the Malaysian MS IEC series, and a valid CB report can reduce the work but does not replace the national differences. The label must sit on the product body, not only on the carton, and carries a QR code that customs and inspectors scan. Penalties under the Electricity Supply Act run to RM100,000 and two years.

Singapore: registration of a controlled good, and two marks

Singapore regulates through the Consumer Protection (Safety Requirements) Regulations: 33 categories of household electrical, electronic and gas appliances are Controlled Goods, and each model must be tested to the specified standard, registered with the Consumer Product Safety Office, and marked before it can be advertised or supplied. Registration rests on a Certificate of Conformity from a designated conformity assessment body, or a supplier’s declaration for lower-risk categories, and the test report must be recent — reports older than three years are not accepted.

The detail that catches appliance shippers is the marking rule: the SAFETY Mark carries an eight-digit registration number that resolves to the registrant and the registered models, and an appliance with a three-pin plug needs two marks — one on the appliance and one on the plug. On a wax heater with a moulded cord, the plug is part of the delivered product, so the cord set has to be marked too. Supplying an unregistered controlled good carries a fine of up to S$10,000 or two years.

Practical consequence for a manufacturer: the same 450 ml pot needs two different label artworks, two different holders and two different renewal calendars. Build both into the launch plan before the first PO, not after.

Temperature control is a cost line in both countries

A 450 ml pot holds roughly 400 g of beads. A bimetallic thermostat swings several degrees around its set point; a chip-controlled pot holds the band tighter, so the wax stays at the viscosity the technician set rather than thickening between clients. The visible cost is the film skimmed off each morning: at 10 g a day, one pot discards about 3 kg a year. Multiply by the number of pots in a fifteen-outlet chain and the accuracy argument stops being a specification and becomes a purchase-order line.

The second cost is time. A pot that overshoots on the first heat needs to be brought back down before the first client, and a technician who starts twenty minutes late on a fully booked Saturday loses the margin on the whole morning. Ask for the overshoot figure on the first heat cycle, not just the steady-state accuracy.

What goes on the order

Six lines: the model and capacity mix per country; the cord set (230 V, 50 Hz, type G moulded, 13 A fuse); the certification route and who holds it — the Malaysian COA holder or the Singapore registered supplier; the label artwork for each market, including the plug mark for Singapore; the spare-parts ratio, which should be one in ten units for heating elements, inner bowls and controllers on a first order; and the language of the manual, English for both markets with Malay added for Malaysian retail channels.

The full range with capacities and controls is on the wax heaters page, the branding and carton options are under OEM and ODM, and the formulation side — which wax runs at which temperature — sits on wax formulas.

Quick FAQ

      <details class="bt-faq__item">
Can one Malaysian COA cover a Singapore shipment as well?

No. Malaysia and Singapore run separate schemes with separate holders and separate labels, and neither recognises the other’s certificate. A Malaysian COA plus ST-SIRIM label clears a consignment into Malaysia; Singapore requires the model to be registered as a controlled good with the SAFETY Mark applied. Plan two files, two holders and two renewal dates, and expect the Singapore registration to be the shorter of the two.
</details>
      <details class="bt-faq__item">
We are starting with a single container for both markets. Which scheme should we use in Malaysia?

For a first trial consignment, batch testing avoids a factory audit and gets the goods moving, with the label applied after arrival. If the plan is a repeat program — monthly or quarterly shipments of the same models — product certification with an initial audit pays for itself quickly, because the label is applied at the factory and there is no per-batch testing queue. Decide on the second order, not the first.
</details>
      <details class="bt-faq__item">
Do we really need two pots in a small Singapore room?

Only if you run two waxes at two temperatures, which is the normal case once a menu includes both a film hard wax at 55–60 °C and a rosin-free hard wax at 45–50 °C. A dual-pot station takes less floor space than two singles and removes the risk of a client being waxed at the wrong temperature. If the menu is single-wax, one 450 ml pot plus a 180 ml for brow work is the leaner configuration.
</details>

Next step

Tell us how many rooms you are equipping in each country, which waxes you will run, and who will hold the Malaysian COA, and we will send a capacity mix, the label artwork requirements for both markets and a sample unit. Sample orders ship from a small quantity, one unit at a time if that is what the decision needs.
